Therapy can feel uncomfortable and intimidating. Through an underlying stance of non-judgment, I am able to join with you wherever you are on this journey. I won’t push an agenda on you. That being said, I will be honest with you. I believe in using ‘real’ language and humor to help break down the tough stuff. People enter my office because something needs to change - I am confident everyone is filled with the capacity for change. I will hold that hope for you, even if you feel you have tried and failed so many times that you've lost your sense of optimism and ability.
While ‘talking it out’ or ‘venting’ can be helpful, I also want you to be able to measure your progress. We will explore specific skills you can implement in your life. You will learn to hear your inner voice (your “gut”) and how to gain more control over your life by being strategic about where you use your energy. Through our work together, you can get back in sync with yourself, establish a firm footing and develop clarity around goals. You will have the skills needed to balance life’s demands and be present for loved ones, while still being able to take a break for yourself. In a nutshell, you will create a life that is purpose driven and fulfilling.
As human beings, we make the best decisions when we have as much information as possible. The therapy process is like holding up a mirror for you to see your life from different angles. I will help you reflect on and make sense of your inner experiences. We both bring expertise to the session and together we'll evaluate what's working and what's not. This collaboration creates long lasting change. Through this whole process, you are not alone.
How My Values Impact the Therapeutic Process
Optimism: "Hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something." I believe that everyone is filled with the capacity for change. We may push against it, but when we embrace change and ourselves, we are able to reach greatness. Often people have tried to change so many times that they lose their own sense of optimism - the belief in themselves. I am able to hold that hope and optimism for you until you can hold it yourself.
Gratitude: "The quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation and to return kindness." It is an honor to work with every client who is willing to share so much of themselves, with me, in the hopes that together we can alleviate pain. As part of this, I aim to create an open and inviting environment for you. I believe that distress is often a result of using too much energy in areas we don’t have control - the pieces of our lives that aren't going according to our expectations. By practicing daily gratitude, we are able to shift some of the that energy. By focusing energy and vision toward a perspective of thankfulness and appreciation, we will in turn see more and more for which to be thankful.
Humility: "The quality and stage of not thinking you are better than other people." I do not have everything in life figured out; I continue to grow and change. As part of the therapy process, I believe we each bring bring integral knowledge and strengths to each session. Through this synergy, we are able to pull the best from each other - this is what propels you toward growth and lasting change.
Theoretical Perspective & Credentials
Individuals are the experts in their own lives; therefore, I utilize a client centered, strengths-based approach, drawing upon several therapeutic modalities in order to meet the needs of each individual. These therapeutic approaches include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Trauma Informed Treatment. Therapy is individualized and directed by you. I am licensed as a Clinical Social Worker (LICSW #LW60031227), Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP #CP00005878), and Master Addiction Counselor (MAC #508329) with over 16 years of experience helping people reach their goals. I hold memberships with the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT).
